Type Locality and Naming

Southernmost Sichuan. The Limahe Fm was named by the Limahe Party of Geology, Sichuan Bureau of Geology in 1957. The type section is in Caiyuanzi-Shaba, Huili County, Sichuan Province. It is the middle formation in Huili Gr.

Synonym: （力马河组）; Longtoushan Quartzite, Laoguanshan Fm, Shuikoumiao Fm, Yanba Fm, Nuojiao Fm and Longtoushan Fm are different names for the same Limahe Fm.


Lithology and Thickness

The Limahe Fm consists mainly of grey-black, grey and grey-white quartzite, metamorphosed quartz sandstone, sandwiched with sericite phyllite, schist, carbonaceous phyllite, siliceous phyllite and minor volcaniclastic rock. There is a general upward trend of increasing grain size. The thickness varies from 2600 m to over 4290 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is in conformable contact with underlying Tangtang Fm.

Upper contact

Regional extent

Southernmost Sichuan. It is distributed in Lixi, Limahe and Tongan, Huili County, Sichuan Province.
